What is accounting software

Accounting software is software to keep your books via the so-called double-entry system. In a basic version, accounting software only consists of the general ledger. In practice accounting software – even simple software - also nearly always contains accounts receivable and accounts payable. More elaborate accounting software also contains modules for fixed assets, purchase, stock, sales, payroll, time billing and project analysis. More sophisticated systems may contain functions for planning, manufacturing and HR. Because all these functions are integrated, the term ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is often used.
